On Wednesday, 30 May 2012, the SS Lane Victory set sail to rendezvous with the World War II Battleship USS IOWA (BB-61).  While it was the intention to join with the USS IOWA up the California coast, we found that she had arrived at the Port of Los Angeles before dawn and set anchor about 3 miles out.

All aboard had a wonderful time celebrating the “IOWA” and partied on while cruising in circles around this awesome World War II War Ship which will become an historical museum this coming July 7th.

UNITED STATES COAST GUARD CUTTER HALIBUT (WPB 87340)
Change of Command Ceremony, July 7, 2011

THE CEREMONY: The change of command ceremony is a time-honored tradition that formally restates to ship's company that the continuity of the authority of command will be maintained.  It is a formal ritual conducted before the assembled company of the command. The change of command of a naval ship is unique in that it is a transfer of total responsibility, authority and accountability from one individual to another.

On July 7, 2011, Lieutenant Charles W. Paris was relieved by Lieutenant JG (junior grade) Stewart L. Sibert as Commanding Officer, USCGC HALIBUT (WPB 87340).
